A smartphone is the perfect companion of the 21st century. As users, we are barely from an arm’s length distance from our smartphones at any given point of time. This gives rise to a number of mishaps and accidents which render the phones useless until further inspection, especially at times like water damage to the cell phone. Even though there is not much reason to panic during a moisture damage, it can be handled with a few DIY (do it yourself) methods. For advanced problems it is recommended to enroll for a Mobile Repairing Course.

The Main Reasons for Water Damage

Water damage can occur in a spectrum of situations. The most commonly cited reasons are accidental drop in a water-captive environment like toilet bowls and kitchen sinks. Reports of mobile getting wet due to rains are also not uncommon yet simply seasonal.

There are even cases of liquids like beer, coffee or wine spilling on phones. And the highly uncommon case where one forgets to remove the phone from their pockets before putting it for a wash.

Whatever the reasons, these simple tips will save you the mental stress and help you fix your water- logged phone.

Things you need

1.       Rice (this is important) around 1 kg will suffice

2.       A large container big enough to accommodate your cellphone

3.       Paper napkins

4.       IPA (isopropyl alcohol)

5.       Q-tips

What to do next

1.       First and foremost, switch off your phone and remove the back cover to detach the batter. This is done to avoid any damage to the battery like short-circuit. It is wise to remove the SIM card and SD card as well. In case your phone has an irreplaceable battery, let it be the way it is.

2.       Use a napkin to wipe water remains or water droplets from the surface of the mobile if you have a vacuum cleaner handy, you can use it to suck in all the excess water. Avoid using a hair dryer as it will naturally just push the water deeper inside or hastily evaporate only to condense back later, culminating more damage.

3.       Fill the container with the rice and leave the phone submerged in it fully for about 24 hours. The rice will absorb the moisture seeping out of the mobile.

4.       After the elapsed time has passed, wipe the phone off once again after removing it from the container. Especially get rid of all the rice dust.

5.       Now, use the IPA solution and the Q-tips to thoroughly clean the device. The IPA will evaporate quickly.

6.       Pray

7.       Try to switch on the device. It should be working, and in case it doesn’t try a different battery.
