Vikasa International Center is the newest initiative of SOPAR-Bala Vikasa, a registered, secular and apolitical non-profit organization founded in 1977 by Mr Andre Gingras, a French Canadian diplomat and development expert and Mrs Bala Theresa Gingras, an Indian philanthropist. Bala Vikasa has a sister concern in Canada and a branch in the USA. We have been instrumental in implementing sustainable community driven development programs which have impacted over 4 million people in 6000 villages mainly in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Our development models have been shared with 8,500 individuals from all over the country and 50 countries globally through our People Development Training Center in Warangal.

Having been committed to social and community development for 37 years, we are evolving to meet contemporary challenges through fitting and timely interventions. We believe that innovative social enterprises and business partnerships with community are the only ways to address endemic social problems in an extremely effective way on a sustainable basis.  With this spirit, we are establishing our flagship institution Vikasa International Center in Hyderabad, for the facilitation of Social Entrepreneurship and Business Responsibility in all their facets.

We believe that social entrepreneurship is the panacea to tackle the dual challenges of poverty and sustainability we face with growing concern in India today. Inequality has doubled in the last 20 years and 400 million people live on less than a dollar a day. Rapidly depleting natural resources means alternative measures must be adopted immediately for environmental sustainability. And yet, Indians are known for ‘jugaad’, that singular ability to adapt, invent and innovate to change life for the better. Increasingly, social enterprises are seen as units of business acumen committed to identifying and implementing sustainable and profitable solutions to local problems. For effective social growth and reforms, social enterprises cannot act in a vacuum but must develop in tandem with improved public sector services, and responsible business. Vikasa International Center is doggedly committed to championing the cause of social entrepreneurs, and tying this in with corporate investments in social business ventures.
