Braces vs Invisalign: Which is better?

by Stunning Dentistry Stunning Dentistry

Orthodontic dental treatment is the most widely dental service practiced by dentists. These treatments procedure helps in straightening the teeth and correcting the bite issues. The teeth are straightened in order to bring the teeth to an ideal position and improve their looks & functionality. The dentists mostly make use of braces or Invisalign to do the corrections.

The Invisalign is a set of transparent and clear trays that helps in achieving the proper teeth positioning. On the other hand, the dental braces in India are made of metal wires that help in the ideal movement for teeth positioning. The pros and cons of both braces and the Invisalign help the patient to decide the better choice.

Metal Braces

The metal braces are non-removable and are very efficient in fixing any complex tooth issue. They are known to work faster in aligning the teeth and closing the gaps. The time duration of the whole treatment varies from patient to patient and the severity of the malalignment. The average duration ranges from 18 months to 3 years. But, the patient can notice some minor changes in a short span after starting the treatment.

The maintenance of oral hygiene with metal braces may be a little difficult. But, little involvement and regular practice make it easier over a period of time. The patient needs to visit the dentist regularly every 4-6 weeks. The patient needs to avoid certain foodstuffs like sticky food, popcorn, gums, etc. that may break the braces.

Invisalign

Invisalign is a removable and invisible set of tray customized according to the patient. They are very comfortable as compared to the traditional metal braces. It is made of smooth plastic which does not cause any injury to the gingiva. It is very easy to maintain oral hygiene as the trays can be removed while brushing and flossing.

It is usually used in less complicated cases where only minor changes are required.

It is recommended that the patient wear the Invisalign for about 20-22 hours a day. If the patient follows this, it usually takes about 6 to 18 months to do the corrections. Any deviation in following the protocol may lead to an extended time of the treatment.

The Bottom Line

There are several factors that have to be taken into consideration before selecting braces or Invisalign. Both have their pros and cons and finally, it depends on the need of the case and the patient. The Invisalign cost in India is quite high but it has its own benefits whereas traditional braces are low in cost but not very appealing aesthetically.
