Small furniture placement tips
by Frances Burns I love my workA general
house renovation can include a new layout of the spaces according to the modern
lifestyle. The new layout leads to the need to place furniture in different
positions from the previous ones to ensure the good functionality of the
premises.
Placement
of furniture in a room is a difficult task because it requires complex thoughts
and actions to ensure a pleasant living within it. Since space is empty from
furniture try to imagine it with furniture in appropriate places.
First you
should decide what the central element of the space will be and what determines
it. It can be anything from a fireplace to a piece of furniture or a work of
art. Placement of furniture should highlight this element, for example, the
sofas and the armchairs of the living room should be framed by a fireplace.
Start
furnishing every room with the largest furniture first. For the living room area,
it can be the sofa, for the bedroom the bed etc. Before selecting its location,
study the traffic in the space considering the inner door, the balcony door and
the window, the activity of the room with the rest of the house. Be careful not
to hinder the movement, the passage and any view through the outer openings.
Then
consider placing the smaller furniture and linking it to the larger one, for
example the cupboards and bedside tables. Be sure not to hinder this movement
within the space.
The
furniture should be slightly spaced from the walls in order to give a sense of
space all around the area. The waist and the side tables should be spaced apart
from the sofas and armchairs not too small to give space, but not too large to
be used to rest on the seating cup or other objects. In addition, consider
whether the distance between the couch and the waist table should allow
passage.
Combine
furniture of different sizes and height to give interest in space and avoid
monotony.
Think about
the scale and proportion of furniture and how they fit into the scale of the
space in which you want to place them. A very small table next to a massive
sofa looks very small, a tiny painting is not looking nice on a big wall, and a
great work of art "overflows" on a small wall.
Choose the
size of the carpets in the room. A very small carpet creates the feeling that
space is small and looks very awkward. For a sense of comfort and spaciousness,
you should choose carpets that stretch under the furniture. You can also think
of not placing a carpet, especially during the summer period, so as the space
will look wider and the floor will make you feel you are closer to earth, just
by touching it.
Take care
of the pieces of artwork and their place on the walls. You can choose a
painting or some smaller ones in a harmonic composition. Hang them so that
their center of composition is at the height of the eye of a standing observer.
You can also make your own painting, using a simple canvas and create your own
exhibition corner.
The right
placement of the furniture is complemented by the choice of the appropriate
position and the type of lighting. In addition to the wall lamps of the room, consider local lighting of any kind, such as designing decorative
elements, like paintings, antiques, creating DIY table lamps for reading, handheld,
or place hidden lighting in order to create a great atmosphere.
With the
right choice and placement of furniture in the rooms will be used the
renovation of the house, as it will offer a new dimension in the space.
