Skin Wrinkles

by Abhinav G. Movie Enthusiast
kin wrinkles are inevitable as people age. However, in some cases, they appear sooner than we expect, making us look older than our actual age. As a result, we avoid batch reunions because we are embarrassed to tell people our age, especially to those who still look young and beautiful. In photo sessions, we are careful that our laugh lines and crow’s feet do not show on the pictures. It’s a daily struggle to hide our wrinkles.

What Causes Wrinkles?
There is a difference between intrinsic aging and extrinsic aging. Intrinsic aging is the natural aging process. As people get older, the skin becomes thinner, drier and loses its elasticity. Fat found in the deeper layers of the skin that give your skin a plump appearance start to diminish as well as you age. As a result, the skin become saggy and the lines and crevices become more pronounced.

Extrinsic aging on the other hand, occurs because of sun damage and other environmental factors. The sun’s ultraviolet light is harmful for the skin as it speeds up the natural aging. The harmful UV rays are the one of the main causes of premature wrinkling. In fact, 90% of the cases of skin wrinkles that dermatologists treat are because of exposure to the sun rather than because of natural aging. Other than exposure to the sun, smoking is also another factor to consider when wrinkles start to develop at an earlier stage. Repeated facial expressions, such as squinting, are also believed to cause fine lines and wrinkles. This is because every time you move a facial muscle, a groove forms beneath the surface of the skin. When you get older, the skin loses its flexibility and the grooves no longer spring back in place.

Preventing Wrinkles
While we might not be able to age backwards like Benjamin Button, we can do something to prevent premature skin wrinkles. A simple way is by addressing the common causes of wrinkles. For instance, if you are a person who smokes, then stop smoking. Since you know that UV rays are harmful for the skin, make sure also that you wear sunscreen, shades and a hat if it is unavoidable for you to get exposed to the sun. Other ways include:

Getting enough sleep. When you don’t get enough sleep, not only are you cranky in the morning, but your body also produces excess cortisol, a hormone responsible for breaking down skin cells. A person with enough sleep on the other hand, produces more HGH or human growth hormone, which helps retain the skin’s elasticity and prevents wrinkles.

Changing your eating habits. Your body needs nutrients to keep your skin looking healthy. Eat more fish for protein, which is one of the building blocks for healthy skin. Of course, don’t forget to include fruits and vegetables in your diet plan. They contain antioxidant compounds that fight damage caused by free radicals.
Using moisturizers. While you can find many anti-aging products in the market, do not forget to underestimate the power of a simple moisturizer. Remember that moist skin makes creases and lines less noticeable. It is also not advisable to wash too often as tap water diminishes moisture and natural barrier oils that gives the skin a healthy glow.

Conclusion
Even if you are a person who doesn’t care much about skin wrinkles, you still need to practice proper skin care. After all, having healthy skin is not just about beauty. It also concerns your overall health and confidence.
