Without further ado, here are the signs it's time, or past time, to buy yourself a new AC.

It's Old

On average, AC's last 10 to 15 years. If your air conditioner is over 10 years old, it's running on borrowed time. Not only is it more likely to start malfunctioning, but older AC's weren't built with energy efficiency in mind like newer units are. That means if your AC is from more than a decade ago, it's probably actively making your energy bill higher than it needs to be. Get with the times and find yourself an energy efficient unit that will run without issue for years to come and save you money month to month.

It's Not Blowing Cool Air

Truth be told, it's pretty easy to determine when you need a new AC. If your AC isn't blowing cool air anymore, then why are you even running it? This could be happening for a number of reasons and while some are serviceable, if your unit is outdated, you're probably better off getting a new one then having an HVAC specialist replace eroded parts. Give the HVAC specialist a call regardless, though, to see what new and hip AC units they have to offer you.

It's Making Noises

When your AC starts to make screeching, grinding, or banging noises, consider it a warning sign. These noises are usually indicative of a problem with the belt or the motor. In short, they're signs of an impending malfunction. Don't wait for the malfunction to occur. Call for help instead.
