Should you take antibiotics to eliminate acne?

by TM Maria Be a king in your own kingdom

Painful and intense acne is one of the most frustrating experiences of adolescence, especially if it does not disappear despite the many treatments and expensive soaps that you have used. Fortunately, today there are multiple options that you can find in a pharmacy, including antibiotics for acne.

In addition to excess bait and cell deaths, there are bacteria that cause acne. These bacteria can get into saturated pores and multiply, causing inflammation and redness.  And like any bacteria, you can only kill them with one thing: antibiotics.

Among the most common antibiotics to treat acne are minocycline and doxycycline, which are used to fight certain inflammatory types of acne, such as red bumps, pustules and painful cysts. It is usually prescribed by a dermatologist, along with other topical acne medications and is used for two to four months.

The antibiotics for acne only prescribed for short - term treatment because drug resistance can develop.  However, during those 3 months the specialists assure you and guarantee results. After the treatment with antibiotics you will have to continue using a topical treatment, but the acne will already have diminished noticeably.

Although if the case is serious, you may have to take antibiotics for a longer period of time. And if you're only dealing with pimples and blackheads, why would you think about antibiotics?

Both are non-inflammatory forms of acne, and can be treated with easily available products such as benzoyl peroxide, which kills acne bacteria, or salicylic acid, whose function is to remove excess oil and exfoliate dead skin cells.

How do I know if I need antibiotics?

Once your problems with acne progress beyond pimples and blackheads, it's time to consult with a dermatologist. Those inflammatory cysts and pustules are your body's way of screaming "Help!" Antibiotic treatments are not for everyone.

Lactating and pregnant women cannot use them, for example. And these medications also have side effects.  Some cause sensitivity to the sun and others cause reflux. That is why it is important to take them with a glass of water at least 30 minutes before going to bed.

There are options for everyone, but you alone cannot make that decision. Consult with an expert first and try the treatment that suits your needs and preferences.
