Wedding photography is the photography of activities relating to weddings. It includes photographs of the couple before marriage (for announcements, portrait displays, or thank you cards) as well as coverage of the wedding and reception. The practice of wedding photography has evolved and grown since the invention of the photographic art form in 1826 by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce. The range of deliverables that a Dorset wedding photographer presents is varied. There is no standard as to what is included in a wedding coverage or package so products vary regionally and among various photographers, as do the number of images provided. Here are some photography mistakes to be avoided.

1.      Not Getting a Second Shooter.

Shooting a wedding can be done by one photographer but getting a second or an assistant photographer is also great. The second photographer offers another unique point of view throughout the entire day that the other photographer would not have photographed.

2.      Not Finalizing the Wedding Day Schedule.

In order to get the best out of your wedding pictures you have to have good communication with your photographer. Talk to your photographer before finalizing the schedule for your wedding day. Tell the photographer your expectations throughout the day.

3.      Not hiring a Professional.

You may hire a friend or a beginner as your photographer thinking you know enough about photography to trust your wedding photos in their hands but alas! This may turn out to be a horrendous mistake especially if you have to re-hire another photographer to clean up the mess created. To avoid disappointments, a professional photographer will give you high quality photos that capture the best and memorable moments of your wedding day

4.      Not Knowing your Gear.

Even photographers make mistakes – it is not only the bride and the groom. Some photographers forget to develop a plan B when it comes to their equipment. If it malfunctions or runs out of battery, you lose precious time and moments charging your camera or replacing it. Photographers also buy expensive equipment and the biggest mistake they make is not knowing how to use it.  Take time and study your gear and how it functions with every camera setting.

5.      Not limiting the hours of work.

Photographers should have proper agreement with their clients to define the scope of work that is expected of them. An event maybe planned for five hours but due to various reasons it takes the whole day. The hours of work should be well stated so if you go overtime you bill the client for the extra time.

6.      Focusing too much on the “Best Shot”.

At the wedding, you need to capture moments rather than people. As a photographer don’t focus too much on the best shot of the married couple. Direct your attention on how the wedding goes on and mark the most special moments with photographs of the soon-to-be married couple, their guests and also some of their designs.

7.      Letting Relatives Get in the Way.

Don’t let your relatives get in the way of your photographer with their cameras. They may think that they’re doing you a favor by taking more shots but usually, this just gets in the way of the photographer and makes them miss their shots.

Understandably, all photographers make mistakes – whether newbies or seasoned ones; that’s how they grow. Putting aside these common mistakes, they can strive to make their way to photography greatness with the bride and the groom backing them up to avoid these mistakes. Coordination is good to a wedding photography experience.
