Step 1: Let's start by uninstalling the QB POS

  • Firstly, hit the Windows & R keys together.
  • By doing the above action Run box will open. In that box, type Control Panel & hit the Enter key.
  • Click on the Programs and Features option.
  • Now, click on the option for QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale 18.0 under the list of programs.

Step 2: Changing the names of point-of-sale folders

Now, in case you have removed the QB POS from the server system, try to access those files. Do copy the POS data folder from the original location & paste it on your desktop. At the time of modifying the name of the folders, add OLD at the end every time. This particular action will not allow the QB POS to recognize the folder in order to create a new one.


Location for the folders:

  • C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks POS XX
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks POS XX
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8
  • C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale 18.0


For Windows users, delete the QBPOSDBSrvUser

  • Click on the Control Panel under the Start menu.
  • Then, choose User Account & then click on Manage another account option.
  • Choose Continue from the User Account window.
  • Proceed by clicking on QBPOSDBSrvUser & then choose Delete.
  • Do confirm if the folder is deleted and reboot the computer.


Step 3: Installing the QB POS again

  • First, download the QB POS file from a trusted source & save it on your desktop.
  • Then, open the file & start the installation process
  • Now, read the license agreement & choose I Accept the terms & choose Next.
  • DO add the license details & product number & click Next.
  • You will find the installed file on the following path- C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale (version).
  • Lastly, activate your QB POS & Reboot the system.


Step 4: Restoring the QB company file

In a situation where you are not able to create a backup, restore the qbpos.db file. 
  • Now, launch the QB POS & make a new company file with any name & then restore the backup you created before.
  • As the file is restored, do verify it is the right set of data. Also, verify if you can close & open the POS without errors.
  • After that, connect it with other POS machines & QuickBooks Desktop if needed.
  • Lastly, proceed to register the QB POS again.
