Store-bought cleaning products are often very expensive and can cause health problems such as skin irritations and allergic reactions. On the other hand, they are one of the main causes of environment pollution.
Green cleaning products are a perfect alternative to all those poisonous chemical cleaners offered on the market. So next time you need to do some cleaning, you can try using a home-made green cleaner. It is quite easy to make your own green cleaning solution and you don't have to be an alchemist to do it. Here are some guides to help you prepare your own eco-friendly cleaning solution.
The most popular green cleaner is vinegar. A mild vinegar cleaning solution made of two parts clean water and one part distilled white vinegar is the perfect all-purpose natural cleaner. It can clean, disinfect and deodorize almost all kinds of surfaces. However, vinegar have this acidic smell that is annoying for some people. So, if you love the cleaning power of vinegar, but hate its smell, you could try adding some scent to it.
To infuse vinegar with a smell you like, you could use 2 methods.
Method 1 – Take a clean bottle and put scented herbs or flower petals by choice. The more you put, the stronger the scent becomes. Then fill the bottle with distilled white vinegar, cap it and let it stay for at least 10 days in a cold dark place. Then just take all the herbs and petals out and pour the scented vinegar in a spray bottle. Add some water, shake well and you have a scented all-purpose cleaner, disinfectant and deodorizer.
Method 2 – Pour one part distilled white vinegar and two parts clean water directly into a spray bottle. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil and shake well to mix all of the ingredients. Experts advise to use strong and fresh scents such as lavender, citrus and peppermint.
Cleaners from Kilburn claim you that you could store your scented vinegar cleaning solution for a few months. Make sure you keep it in capped bottles, away from direct sunlight and heat and out of reach of children or pets. In comparison, most of the store-bought cleaners can be stored for no more than a month or two. So, using green cleaning solutions saves you time and money without poisoning the environment in your house. That is why, it's good to consider this option.
