Let’s talk feet!

We all know that foot injuries are quite painful and can be extremely costly if it is a severe one. Foot injuries have not only monetary costs but production costs as well because they sideline a worker or a team from their work and eventually add tremendous cost to your bottom line.

These injuries cost businesses an average loss of approximately 5 to 6 days or work.

In a recent study, it was noted that only 25% of the victims of job related to foot injury wear industrial safety shoes. The rest 75% have no idea about the benefits of safety shoes. It is quite surprising and saddening to know this because now there’s a lot of advancement of safety shoes in not just functions but appearance over the past few years and workers are still not taking them as necessity.

•    Sprains and fractures can happen in any workplace and are a result of slips, trips and falls due to spillage of any liquid on floor.

To avoid these injuries at work place, employers should firstly check that which safety footwear should be used by their workers.  Secondly, after proper trials the safety shoe should be made mandatory for the workers of the work place.

Below are few tips to help you identify the right footwear for your workplace.

•    Softer soles for indoor conditions and choose harder cleat designed soles for tough outdoor use

•    Always buy shoes which meets the safety standards

•    Work place where chances of chemical, water, oil etc. spillage is possible, PVC or neoprene exterior material shoes should be used

•    Leather soles are appropriate for wooden floors but not for tiled or concrete floors

•    Proper fitting is a must to avoid any slip or slide

Safety footwear programs should be organized to create awareness among the workers. The program should help them in identifying the right type of footwear with proper fit and training regarding the dos and don'ts of foot protection.
