Reasons for Accumulation of Tartar on Teeth by Dentzz Dental Clinic.
Before we know what Tartar are and what is the reason of its accumulation. We must first know its root cause.
Plaque is a bio-film mostly in transparent or white in colour. These are caused by:
Improper brushing
No regular flossing
Bad dental hygiene
Irregular dental clinic visit
Not using mouth wash
When you eat food, you need to clean your teeth after that as most of the food particle get stuck in your teeth or other parts of mouth so after some time the food and the saliva have a chemical reaction with the bacteria present and form Plaque. If you are very bad in keeping dental hygiene like not brushing twice a day etc. helps this plaque to turn into Tartar. Plaque gets calcify and this process of calcification occurs due to the high incidence of calcium and phosphate ions present in the saliva and this solidifies the plaque causing tartar. It usually forms on the lower part of the teeth, that is where the teeth meet the gums and is visible as a yellow substance.
Plaque can be removed by brushing as it is soft but once its turns to tartar it becomes hard and it can be removed only with professional help.
There are two types of Tartar
1: Supragingival
It forms on the visible part of the tooth that lies above the gums. It is yellow in colour.
2: Subgingival
Its is is formed below the gum line and has more of blackish tone to it.
Subgingival tartar is more difficult to remove as it is almost sixty percent crystallized whereas supragingival is softer and thus easier to remove. With proper care of the teeth and gum it is possible to exclude both forms. If tartar isn’t treated for a long time it can affect the entire oral cavity by being a breeding ground for bacteria. Aesthetically too, it looks quite unsightly and the harder it gets the more difficult it is to remove without damaging the tooth.
