Reasons for a Canada Provincial Nomination Withdrawal

by Nationwide Visas Canada Immigration Services

Did you apply for a provincial nomination and they cancelled it? Well, it is no shock as provinces in Canada have the right to do so, under specific situations. Getting a provincial nominee program (PNP) can be beneficial as it increases your chances of immigration to Canada from India. But it is also equally important to understand that the reason for your nomination cancellation or withdrawal can be many.

Let’s find out.

Why was your provincial nomination withdrawn?

If you meet the conditions set forth by the province, they can cancel or withdraw your nomination. Now, this can happen any time before your PR in Canada is approved. So be prepared if you fail to meet their requirements.

Some of the PNP conditions might include:

  • Retaining the employment offer that made you eligible for a nomination in the first place.

  • It can also be if you do not maintain the funds required to move to a province.

  • Misinterpretation, like forgetting or intentionally not mentioning changes to your situations like the birth of a child, loss of job, etc.

Reasons for your nomination withdrawal by each province

1. British Columbia

You have to apply for a Canada PR visa from India with IRCC before your nomination expires. If you fail to do so, your PNP nomination will be cancelled or withdrawn.

2. Ontario

You must show your intention to live in this province until you get your permanent residence.

3. Saskatchewan

In a case where you or your representative self-withdraw the nomination or you get Canada PR approval through an immigration program other than SINP, your nomination will be cancelled or withdrawn.

4. Manitoba

Next, we have Manitoba, which can cancel or withdraw your nomination, if you don’t seem genuinely interested in residing, working, or starting a business in the province.

5. Nova Scotia

If the immigration authorities find out that the lead application and their dependents are not allowed for Canadian immigration, you may lose your PNP nomination.

6. New Brunswick

If you do not fulfil the request to modify a nomination before its expiry date and you do not seem genuinely interested in living in this province, your PNP nomination will be withdrawn.

7. Newfoundland and Labrador

You have to disclose any changes in your status whether it’s marital status, childbirth, employment chances, or getting a decision on a work permit or PR application. If you do not, you may lose your PNP nomination.

8. Northwest Territories

Lastly, to avoid nomination withdrawal from here, you have to apply for Canada PR within six months after you get a nomination.

What’s next?

If you wish to secure a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nomination, you have to meet the criteria set by the Canadian province you are applying for.

If – for any reason – your nomination gets cancelled or withdrawn, it is crucial to work on it immediately. Connect with authorities to know the reason. They will provide you with the details and you may submit documents or provide more information for a successful nomination.

After you get your PNP nomination, you can check your eligibility points in the Canada PR points calculator & apply through the federal government through one of the Express Entry-managed streams.
