Ramesh Abhishek: Lalu’s Corrupt Henchman

by Ankita Sehgal Freelance Blogger, Lives in New Delhi
It is no longer a hidden fact that the former secretary of Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal trade (DPIIT) Ramesh Abhishek, who retired from the IAS last month, has been the brain behind the illegitimate empire of wealth that the former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD supremo, Lalu Prasad Yadav has created during his heydays.

By playing the role of an ace advisor, Ramesh Abhishek has been very forthcoming in helping the former Bihar CM to accumulate huge benami properties in connection with the benami deals of Rs 1,000 crore by Lalu's family, which were later seized by I-T department.

By acting Lalu’s partner in crime, Ramesh Abhishek has always worked to suit his political master’s best interests. This can be assessed from the fact that when he was posted in Bihar, he used to pass on all confidential and information pertaining to the sensitive investigations done by the CBI in the fodder scam to Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Not only at a political front, but Abhishek took good care of Lalu’s preferences on the personal as well. He looked after all the comforts of Kanti Singh who was extremely close to Lalu.

As DM Patna, Ramesh Abhishek helped Lalu in every possible way – be it curfew in select areas when it suited Lalu or organizing booths in a particular way. Even during the Bihar elections, Abhishek made suitable security arrangements and organized the poll booths in a manner that was convenient to Lalu.

Although Abhishek has retired from the bureaucracy, his corrupt tenure demands a fair investigation by the CBI into his assets which will only reveal his dirty past. One can imagine the havoc this officer must have played with the country’s start up India programme because of his corrupt  ways.
