PVC plumbing fitting and some of its types
by Pooja Late so cutIntroduction
to PVC plumbing fitting
Pipe fittings or the PVC plumbing fitting are the piping
component which helps in changing the direction of the flow. The components
include PVC elbows, PVC tees, etc.
Reducing the size of the
pipe, there are reducers which are called as reducing tees. For connecting the
different components pipe couplings
are used. All together when it is intended to stop the flow, caps are used.
Types
of PVC plumbing fitting
There are many types of
pipe fitting used in piping. The main components are an elbow, tee, reducer,
Union, pipe coupling, cross, cap, Swage nipple, plug, Bush, expansion joint,
adaptors, let that includes weldolet, socket, elbowlet, Thredolet, Nipolet,
Letrolet, Swepolet), Steam Traps, Long Radius Bend, Flanges and Valve.
These are the standard
fittings which are either forging or wrought. It is already known that only
seamless pipes are used to produce wrought fittings. The welded fittings which
are of large diameter and manufacture directly from the plate.
Fittings
with a different type of end connections.
Pipe
elbow
Elbow is most widely used
than any other pipe fittings. It gives considerable flexibility to change the
direction of the pipe. The elbow is mainly available into standard types that
include 90 degrees and 45 degrees. It can also be cut them some other degrees.
They are available into radius types such as short radius and long radius.
90-degree elbow pipe is
installed between the pipes to change the direction of the pipe by 90 degrees.
You can find them in both long and short radius form.
The 45-degree elbow can
be installed between the pipes to change the direction of the pipe by 45
degrees.
Long radius elbows are
used in the pipes when the pressure loss is less compared to the short radius
elbow.
Short radius elbow is
used under Limited space applications. But it has a high-end pressure drop due
to a sudden change in the direction of the flow.
Reducing
elbow
Under the PVC plumbing fitting, the 90-degree
reducing elbow is specifically designed to change the direction as well as to
reduce the size of the pipe piping system. It will eliminate the one pipe
fitting and also reduce the welding by more than one third. This will lower the
resistance to flow and reduce the effect of stream turbulence and potential
internal erosion. It is for these outcomes, gradual reduction in diameter is
employed throughout the arc.
Pipe
bend
When pigging is required
in fluid transportation, long radius pipeline is used. Pipe bend can help with
long radius and smooth change of direction as it has very less pressure drop.
It makes board smooth flow of the fluid and pig possible. Three dimensional and
five-dimensional pipe bends are very commonly available.
Miter
bend
These are not standard
pipe fittings but they are fabricated from pipes. Preference for this is size
10 inch. Large size elbows are also available. However, you cannot use the
miter bend to restrict the low-pressure Water Line. They are generally fabricated
in 2, 3 and 5 pieces.
