They usually hire licensed and qualified caregivers for providing their specific needs. Most organizations offering this kind of care service for elderly people in New Mexico charge a reasonable fee for their services. Some organizations also offer free home care aide training to its clients.

Self-help or independent living care service for elderly people is gaining popularity among many elderly people. This kind of care service is ideal for those who need constant support and assistance with their activities of daily living (ADL). People who engage in this kind of home care service for elderly in their homes are allowed a certain amount of independence. However, this does not mean that they are entirely responsible for their own lives.

There are several types of self-help or independent living care service for elderly. They include home care assistance, which consists of helping your elderly parent (or other family member) cook, clean and do household chores; personal care services, which consists of helping your elderly parent take his medicine; or respite services, which takes care of your elderly parent while he/she goes for a particular day or week. These services may be short or long periods. Most self-help home care services target less invasive and basic home care like laundry assistance, dressing, light housekeeping and light gardening. But there are some home care agencies providing extended services like home care assistance for senior citizens (aged 65 and above), stroke recovery and medication education.

The need for elderly independent living has become more pronounced as the population is ageing. But still the demand for elderly independent living is not met. The idea of home care assistance is still new to many people. This will be the option for people who want to provide the basic care and support to their elderly family members but who can't do so because of financial reasons.
