Preparing Meals with Olive Oil

by L&P Global Wine & Olive Oil Exporter
People taking a healthier direction this year may worry about giving up some meals they love. Luckily, they don’t have to miss out on their favourite meals—they can just add olive oil! Olive oil is flavourful, full of antioxidants, and rich in nutrients. You can even substitute key ingredients in your usual meals with olive oil for a healthier alternative.

However, it’s important to note that olive oil and extra virgin olive oil are special oils that require different treatment when it comes to preparing meals, and that excellent quality olive oil is hard to come by without the right private label olive oil supplier

Olive Oil

Here are some ways you can use olive oil with different dishes.

Baking

For your pastries, you can substitute butter with olive oil. Since olive oil has good cholesterol, it can increase monosaturated fats, decrease saturated fats, and decrease cholesterol. Likewise, olive oil contains Vitamin E which can help preserve the freshness of baked pastries.

Pesto

Pesto sauce contains a rich flavour for a reason—the extra virgin olive oil. Mix extra virgin olive oil with basil leaves, parmesan cheese, pine nuts, and garlic cloves, and you’ve got yourself a healthy sauce not just for pasta, but for sandwiches, salads, and other dishes you can enjoy!

Dips

Extra virgin olive oil can be used as either an ingredient in or by itself as a dip for bread and vegetables! Its raunchy flavour alone is enough to give life to an appetizer. You can mix garlic, herbs like parsley and oregano, salt and pepper, and pepper flakes to complete your dip.

Dressing

Olive oil can make a tasty addition to salads, sandwiches, pastas, and any dishes that have dressings. It can be enjoyed on its own (one and a half cup to be exact), or as a key ingredient in the recipe.

Vinaigrette is just one example of salad dressing made with extra virgin olive oil and vinegar. The secret to the perfect vinaigrette is three parts extra virgin olive oil and one part vinegar. You can opt to add seasonings like dill, basil, mint, cilantro, parsley, onions, cheese, pepper flakes, or honey.

Mayonnaise

Making your own homemade mayonnaise is healthier than buying industry-produced mayonnaise because you get to decide what ingredients to include and substitute. Adding olive oil to your mayonnaise will give your spread fresher flavour with less additives. You can mix it with Dijon mustard, an egg yolk, and lemon juice.

There are many ways you can incorporate olive oil and extra virgin olive oil to your meals. Packed with antioxidants, olive oil can supply vitamins E and K, which are linked to preventing cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, and sustaining bone health respectively. Substituting olive oil for certain ingredients can make meals not only tastier, but healthier in the long run.
