Prefabricated Building Structures

by Uday Patel Seo Professional & Content Writer India
In simple terms prefabrication is manufacturing or fabricating building components at the floor of fabrication units. This component is then trans-located to the building site to be installed. There are many benefits of prefabricating structures in fab shops using steel or iron as base material than creating a brick and mortar structure right on the site of the building. This way not only large components are installed at the work site but also components that are seen as accessories vital to the function of the building.

Metal structures are built up quicker and the cost reduction is also evident hence civil engineers prefer this types of construction, and assembly of parts that eventually accord shape to the whole building. This is called prefabrication as parts are manufactured in the units to be transported as an when desired.

The structural framework can be created on spot welding and bolting prefabricated frames to give shape to the building. The  accessories comprise of fabricated stairs, roof tops, canopy, dunnage, windows and gates to name a few. These have been fabricated separatly or done so at the behest of the contractor whenever desired.

The metal used is generally an alloy of steel but iron works can also be installed at the site. Steel alloys differ from one an other, and the civil engineers look into the properties of alloy before placing an order.

Like in any type of construction design, structural configuration and precision are important and dependent upon quality workmanship and efficiency. Integration of technologies like AI and CAD have created robust designs, and use automation to bring in precision and speed at the same time negating human errors.

Using latest techniques the goal of the fabricator and the civil engineer is to create a stable framework and install component essential for the building and create a robust design as per the desire of the resident or owners.

The assemblies need to be quality driven for long lasting and stability. In this besides design and precision the quality of materials used is imperative.

This method of building structures is dependent upon the proximity of the fab shop since the benefits of cost reduction and time saved would be nullified in case of a long distance transportation. Another drawback would be difficulty in integrating or assembling composites made from other materials like wood and plastic which may be required to tailor a structure as desired by the owner.

There is a bright outlook for this industry. The success depends upon the fabricators and installers with reputation and commitment.  Efforts should be made to level disadvantages, and the methodology is made more efficient and productive by hard work.
