Popular Themes for Your Kitchen

by Kevin Smith Author

When you’re getting ready to design your kitchen, there are a lot of elements to consider – elements that need to blend together to create a cohesive effect overall. Some of these elements are the layout, color scheme, fixtures, appliances, and decor. Any or all of these may vary depending on what kind of theme you want in your kitchen, so here are some of the most popular themes and some of the aspects that define them.

Traditional

Traditional kitchens are all about creating a warm and inviting space. These kitchens use a muted color scheme, often in the light brown or gray family. There’s usually a lot of wood in medium or dark tones, and the cabinets and other woodwork have raised panels or other embellishments. There are also often patterned fabrics with fringes, tassels, or other Old World touches. Stone is also common, and you could get custom granite countertops in Alpharetta, or you could get a stone backsplash or tiled floor.

Modern

The overall tone of a modern kitchen relies on a sleek appearance. Wherever possible, everything from appliances to countertops should be smooth, shiny, and square. The kitchen is predominantly black, white, and gray, and there is very little decoration, and that should be simple and small.

Country

Kitchens are supposed to be cozy places, and for many people, the country evokes that feeling. There are actually several different styles of country kitchens from rustic to cottage themes. These are all fairly different from each other, but they all feature a lot of bright colors and a lot of wood and other natural materials. It’s just the exact color scheme and types of decorations that can vary. For instance, rustic themes use a lot of deep reds and browns while cottage kitchens often fall back on water colors like blues and greens. Both use a lot of natural imagery.

Trendy

If country kitchens don’t have enough color for you, then you should think about trendy or transitional kitchens. While the exact style can change based on yearly preferences, trendy kitchens tend to have bright colors, patterns, and some interesting art to go along with it all. The idea is to make the kitchen approachable and relaxing to be in. Even if you get a trendy kitchen, it helps the resale value of the house if you can make sure there are a few timeless elements in the house, like custom granite countertops from Alpharetta. You need to make sure parts of your kitchen will last for a good, long time.
