Plitvice Lakes vs Krka waterfalls
NP Krka is a karst phenomenon, which, through the sea, forms numerous lakes, waterfalls and fast. It runs at the foot of the Dinara mountain, near the town of Knin. Due to its natural beauty and geological characteristics, most of the area around the river Krka was proclaimed a national park in 1985. It covers a surface of 109km2 along the Krka River; two kilometers downstream from Knin to Skradin. The most impressive and most visited waterfalls are Skradinski buk and Roški slap. Roški waterfall is well accessible and can be visited all year round. 650 m long it is formed by 12 waterfalls, with a total fall of 27 m.
On the left bank of the Krka there are mills (small mills, used for milling wheat and corn) on waterfalls, some of which are still in use. Similar to accommodation Plitvice Lakes and House Tina, there are many apartments, hotels and hostels near Krka waterfalls. From the Rhodesian fall, Krka is again transformed into the elongated Visovačko Lake. In the middle of the lake is the isle whereby the lake was named - Visovac where there is a church and a Franciscan monastery which gives the landscape of the lake additional secrecy.
On the island, the first Augustinos (hippos) in the 14th century built the monastery and the churchyard there. In 1440, the Franciscans from Bosnia were driven to Visovac by a Turkish invasion. They are keeping up to this day. The monastery maintains a valuable collection of books and artworks, including 620 Turkish documents. NP Krka Skradinski buk is one of the most beautiful sloping waterfalls in Europe. It is possible to take a walk through the paths and bridges. At Skradin Krka affects the sea. Rijeka Krka is rich in different species of fish, of which 10 are endemic. The number of birds includes the National Park Krka in ornithological one of the most valuable areas of Europe. On the Krka River you can swim only in the permitted areas, and Park is possible to sail by boat from Skradin or on foot. Entrance to the National Park Krka is near Skradin (Šibenik: 23km) The entrance fee to the national park ranges from 25 to 80kn and for children (7-14 years) from 15 to 65kn.
