Adalaj Stepwell,
Ahmedabad
This intricately carved out Stepwell is located in the
village of Adalaj and was built in 1498 in memory of Rana Veer Singh by his
wife queen Rudadevi. This place is a fine representation of masterful and tasteful
architectural work. This Vav or step well was an integral part of the semi-arid
regions of Gujarat and the water here was utilized for drinking, washing and
bathing purposes. This place was also one of the main venues for various festivals
and sacred rituals. The Stepwell is 5 stories deep and the walls, pillars and
every inch of stone here is inscribed in intricate designs, Sanskrit hymns, and
verses.
Bet Dwarka, Dwarka
This island is located on the mouth of the gulf of Kutch and
is one of the most underrated places of
attraction in Gujarat. This is a strip of sand and stone which is situated
at a distance of 30 km from the north of the town of Dwarka. The place is not
only an important site for Krishna followers due to its mention in the Indian
epic literature of Dvaraka - the abode of Krishna the historical excavations done
under the water here have also revealed a lot of evidences for the later Harappan
or Hindus valley civilization. The city is laced in a deep sense of history and
mythology.
Sarkhej Roza
Located in close proximity to visual complex this Roza is a
beautiful place filled with complex tombs and immaculate pavilions. The complex
is erected around an artificial lake which was created by the bygone rulers of
Gujarat. Some of the most delicately designed tombs here include the ones for
Ahmed shah’s spiritual advisor’s tomb and that of Shaikh Ahmed Khattu. If you
are an enthusiast of good architecture and designs then this place is
awe-inspiring for you. The beauty of this place feels like a quiet getaway
where the ambiance is peaceful and serene.
Dwarkadhish Temple,
Dwarka
Also referred to as Jagat Mandir, this Hindu temple which is
dedicated to Lord Krishna is one of the prime centres of devotion for Hindus. It
is also a part of the holy all India Char Dham Yatra which also comprises of
Rameshwaram, Badrinath and Jagannath temple. A visit to these temples is said
to provide moksha to the pilgrim. Apart from this the temple is also one of the
Divya Desam for Lord Vishnu which is visited by avid Vaishnavites. The
importance of the temple has also been glorified in the holy sacred texts of Divya
Prabandha. It is said to have been constructed on top of the permanent
residence of Lord Krishna.
Kankaria Lake, Ahmedabad
Situated on the southern end of the city this glimmering
man-made lake is popular for being the largest lake in Ahmedabad. It is a
famous attraction and a picnic spot for families and kids. with the presence of
fun entertainment elements like a hot air balloon ride, water rides, toy train
ride, zoo, food stalls, etc. the place is a fun stopover if you are visiting Ahmedabad. The best time to
visit here would be the month of December when a week-long festival takes place
here and the entire area just springs to life.
