Peter Mara

Peter Mara learned how to analyze and break down smart investments when he attended Northeastern University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the Finance and Investment Club and Beta Gamma Sigma. The experience as a whole helped him develop the analysis skills to find the best investment options for firms and clients he would use throughout his career. Eventually, he would use those skills to help alternative energy companies develop the infrastructure to create clean energy solutions.

Peter Mara took a job as an associate with John Hancock Financial as his first position out of college. While at John Hancock, Mara became particularly interested in infrastructure investing at John Hancock due to these assets have stable cash flows due to the contracted nature of these projects, diversification away from equities and fixed income investments, and inflation protection.

Peter Mara left John Hancock Financial and became an independent wind energy development finance specialist in 2009, when he helped start up Westerly Wind, LLC. This investment firm, as a portfolio company of US Renewables, which Mara worked for until he formed and became the Vice President of Westerly Wind, puts funds mostly into wind energy development, helping alternative energy companies build the infrastructure they need to produce renewable energy solutions. Mara has become an expert in wind and energy project development finance and continues to help companies provide solutions for reducing carbon emissions in the United States. He has experience working with energy companies in the US, Europe, and Mexico. Peter Mara is very active with Westerly Wind, LLC in acquiring and divesting wind development projects.

Peter Mara helped US Renewables found Westerly Wind, LLC in 2009 because of the market opportunity in investing in early-stage wind development projects. Since 2009, Mara has helped develop, invest, and sell over 800 megawatts of wind energy projects in the US. He uses his financial expertise he developed at Northeastern University as a graduate in Business Administration and subsequent job as an associate for John Hancock.
