Planning a bucks night is a big deal. It's a guys last big hurrah before marriage and so the celebration needs to be a good one. That can put a lot of pressure on the organiser but with some careful planning, you can ensure your mate goes out in style!

Allow lots of time to plan

Once you've been nominated as the bucks party planner, you should switch straight into organisation mode. The faster you get things happening, the better things will fall in to place. Guests need to be given plenty of notice for the event to make sure they can block out their calendar. This is especially important if you decide to make it a full bucks weekend.

Decide upon a guest list

The number of people coming to the bucks night will sway your choices for the entertainment. If you've got 50 blokes coming then you won't even bother trying to get them all in to a busy pub at 11pm at night. Work out whether the list will extend to aquaintances of the soon-to-be-married-man or if it's just for close friends. Feel free to check with the groom himself so he's not under or overwhelmed by the guests on the night.

Pick an appropriate venue

Once you have a fair indication of numbers you can move on to the venue. You might decide to have multiple venues and activities but it's always good to plan one main place for drinks (and even a feed). Before locking something in, make sure you ask yourself these questions:

  • is it nice and easy to get to the venue?
  • does the premises accomodate the number of guests we have?
  • can we organise a private space or will we be amongst the common battlers?
  • what time does the venue close?
  • what type of entertainment is there?
  • can we bring our own music?
  • are there any party packages we can pick?

If you're looking for unique venue options then why not try a boat cruise. Companies such as Williamstown Charters and RockFish cater for bucks night parties on their boats, and it's a great way to do something different and avoid big crowds. You can BYO alcohol or they can supply it for you, plus you can organise food, music and other things to make the event just how you want it.

Don't forget the "entertainment"

It wouldn't be a bucks party without girls. Organising a special dancer to perform a show is always a fun idea, or even hire a couple of topless barmaids to serve drinks to the guests or even hand out food. Chase Strippers is the leading company for this type of entertainment and they have plenty of lovely staff to choose from.

Organise food and beverages

Keeping punters full (of both food and alcohol) is an important consideration throughout the festivities. If you're hiring a venue, be sure to check what food and drink they have and whether you can BYO. The boat party cruise is a great idea and they even allow the female entertainers on board! Otherwise, you might want to do something cheap like a BBQ and beers at a mates place, and then head out to another venue later on.

Send out the invitations

After you've done all the hard work and chosen a venue and the activities, it's time to send out invites. Creating a Facebook event can be an easy way to do this, or if you have everyone's email address, send a group email. Be sure to leave the buck out of these communications, so he's kept in the dark about what to expect.

Have a good time

On the night, the main thing to focus on is everyone having a good time. If you've planned things well then you shouldn't need to worry about any logistics during the event, so just keep the guests involved and making the most of this special night!
