NRI Legal Services

by Kim Gill Writer

To begin with, let’s first understand, “Who an NRI is”?  An NRI (Non Resident Indian) is a citizen of India who has an Indian passport and has temporarily migrated to another country for six months or more for service, accommodation, education or any other purpose.

Now let’s have a look at some of the Services provided to the NRIs in India:

Document Attainment:

1) Birth Certificate- is the most essential certificate for any person as it is the first certificate issued for a child after birth, which gives him the documentary proof and related citizenship rights.

2) Degree Certificate- is important, specifically when one is applying for job or further studies abroad. It certifies that he/she has passed a test or series of tests or has received specific education.

3) Marriage Certificate- is issued only if the marriage is registered with the sub-registrar office. It cannot be obtained where in the marriage has already taken place and was not registered at that time. Both the applicant and spouse’s physical presence with the supporting documents are required for the registration.

4) Death Certificate- is issued by the Municipality / Government authority of the place where the incident took place, declaring the date, fact and cause of death. It’s important to register death for relaxing the departed from social, legal and official duties, and to enable settlement of property heritage and the family to gather insurance and other benefits.

Financial / Taxation  Legal / Insurance:

Wealth Maintenance- includes financial planning, investment case management and many other combined financial services. High and small-business owners and families who need the help of a documented financial adviser, call upon the wealth managers to coordinate retail and estate planning, legal resources, tax professionals and investment management.

Life / General / Mediclaim Insurance- is a form of risk management used to defend against the risk of an accident or uncertain loss. It is primarily of two types, Life Insurance and General Insurance. Life Insurance insures a person against risk of losing life during the insured period; General Insurance is all the rest of insurance which are unrelated to the life of a person. Medical Insurance- a part of General Insurance is very necessary in today’s times.
