After lagging behind its competitors in the sedan market for a solid decade, Acura is finally making a comeback with its newest addition, the Acura TLX.

After experiencing success with crossover vehicles, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Acura Division Mike Accavitti relayed to reporters at a TLX press launch that, “We’re turning our attention and our efforts to the sedan side of our business.”

Accavitti wasn’t just full of hot air. The new Acura TLX will find the medium between outgoing models TL and TSX while adding a host of new features.

Aesthetic Appeal

Any true luxury vehicle needs to look sharp. The TLX’s new look is smooth, understated and aerodynamic. The interior features perforated rich leather seats, soft-touch materials and dark red wood and metallic accents. Front seats are supportive and spacious despite the reduction in body shell size, and there is ample rear-seat and trunk space.

Featured Technology

True to Acura brand tradition, the TLX boasts a number of new technological advances. The TLX features two new drivetrains and top-of-the-line versions of Acura’s exceptionally-named Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive (SH-AWD) and Precision All-Wheel-Steer (P-AWS).

Acura’s penchant for acronyms aside, the steering is quick and responsive, and makes for comfortable and reliable handling. Advanced suspension and exterior acoustic spray foam make for one of the quietest, smoothest rides on the market.

Additional Features

Additional available options include a navigation system, HD radio, dual-zone climate control, rear camera, adaptive cruise control, a 14-speaker Krell audio system, and voice controls.

The Big Picture

With EPA rates of 24 mpg city and 35 mpg highway, the Acura TLX’s fuel economy is top of its class. Add in a starting price tag of $31,890 and the TLX easily beats out the competition for best value.

Whether Acura’s newest foray into the luxury sedan market will be enough to overtake its competition in the industry remains to be seen, however, the new TLX promises to be a solid option for brand loyalists and new consumers alike.
