New Foundation
As the founder of Recession Proof Holdings, LLC, a holding company which holds assets for two subsidiary companies, Murphy Properties and Recession Proof Holdings Consulting, my role has been to network and maintain the vision for the companies.Having considerable success, I began to volunteer with many veteran-based organizations as a way togive back to the many Military personnel and Veterans who go underserved.
I served honorably in the United States Army during peace-time and was medically retired in 1987. Classified as a disabled veteran, I didn't let the stereotype hinder me. I pushed on.
I utilized the benefits which I was entitled to, to pursue my education. I graduated from The University Illinois Springfield with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and a second Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. Wanting to be an Attorney I was accepted into Law School while I was working on a Master's degree concentrating in Management Information Systems.
Unfortunately, I was unable to complete either because I had a small family of two to provide for.
I took a position with a Financial Institution and worked in the Financial Industry for 3-4 years. It was one of the most rewarding, but short careers I'd engaged in. This field opened a world of doors by teaching me the fundamental principles of Finance and the Financial Industry.
My then spouse wanted to move to Chicago to ease her student loans through a program which would pay her educational costs if she worked in a disadvantaged area (we didn't have any in our area). I left my career to help her reach her goals and moved to Chicago.
I began to substitute teach until I landed a full-time employment. Utilizing a system call "Vet Preference", I applied to and was chosen for a 2-year temporary position with The Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare Department as an Office Assistant.
Believing in giving back what was given to me and the need to find a permanent position, I started to apply for positions within the Veterans Administration after unequivocally committing to one full year. I was chosen for a permanent position with The Department of Veterans Affairs Compensation and Pension Department after 14 months with the Healthcare Department.
I served as a Veterans Service Representative and a Veterans Service Representative Rating Specialist for over 15 years. I had a knack for extracurricular activities and during this time of employment, I became a Trainer, Trainer of Trainers, Chief Steward and Vice President within our Local Union, and Organizer with the District Union.
I wrote a Monthly Newsletter for the office, served on some of the most critical think tanks as we moved into paperless claims, earned several awards, bonuses for my contributions to the enhancement of the Department's Mission. I retired from the Department in 2013.
After retiring, I ventured back into the private sector and formed the current businesses we own currently. Having had considerable success in business and volunteering with several organizations who supports veterans, I foundedRecession Proof Holdings' Foundation for Military and Veterans Affairs.
Having had the distinct honor to serve and stationed with one of the Elite Units (The 101st Airborne Division), I found it my calling to support both current Military Service Members as well as former Military Service Members (Veterans) and their families.
The possibilities are endless but we can only complete this mission with the love, support, and help from the population we service, those who came before us in support of our freedoms, and patriotic philanthropists such as yourself.
Forever Grateful,
Jeffrey Murphy, US Army (Retired)
