Natural Ayurvedic Treatment for Acidity

Acidity can add a lot of discomfort to your life. When there is imbalance of pitta in our body, it leads to acidity and creates acidic, hot and intense energy. You will find Pitta in the stomach and it is mainly due to aggravating foods such as tomatoes, citrus juices, garlic, chillies, fried foods and alcohol. There are several toxins in these foods, due to which heartburn is caused.

The problem of acidity is very common; 8 out of every 10 people complain about acidity that's caused owing to a variety of reasons. Temporary treatment is taken by many but it's essential to address root causes.

However, if you don't know why this problem has been caused, it might be a cause of worry. The acidity problem shouldn't relapse; if proper treatment isn't taken on time, it might create long term complications.

People feel that this disorder isn't that serious, which is why they ignore it. However, as time passes by, the problem might become serious. When the acid of the body increases too much, it leads to indigestion and you might vomit food.

As per Ayurveda, it occurs due to imbalance of Pitta Dosha. When the kapha is associated with Pitta, the acid rises up and climbs oesophagus. This is the reason why most of the people suffer from hyperacidity. It is also known as acid brash, acid reflux and heartburn.

Causes of Acidity

  1. When the valve between oesophagus and stomach weakens, it leads to acid reflux. It travels to the lower part of oesophagus. Heart burn is caused.
  2. Heavy meals can cause an increase in the acid reflux.
  3. Excess secretion of acid can lead to ulcers and acidity. This happens when there is Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome. There’s a lot of acid from the duodenum or the pancreas.
  4. When there is secretion of bicarbonate in the layer of mucus, the acid is neutralized.   However, when the blood flow isn’t proper, it leads to ulcers in the stomach.
  5. Too much alcohol isn’t good. Moreover, irregular food habits and foodstuffs might also cause issues. Sometimes, it happens due to NSAIDs.
  6. Acidity is too high in nervous and emotional individuals.

  • Stomach feels bloated

  • Constant hiccups
  • Dysphagia

As per Ayurvedic principles, acidity is named as "Amla Pitta". Well, as we have discussed above, the main cause is that Pitta is imbalanced. Many elements like water and fire govern it. The digestive fire is controlled by them. Even if there is slight imbalance, they impact the enzymes in the stomach. Hence, due to the constitution of Pitta, there is problem of hyperacidity, heartburn as well as peptic ulcers. Several things lead to aggravation of pitta dosha. Some include spicy foods, hot foods, anger, hot environment etc. The kaphic acid reflux can be identified easily. Rather than other medicines, Ayurvedic treatments for acidity is suggested as it is helpful and effective. Given below are some herbs that help alot.

Some Best Natural Ways to Get Rid of Acidity

Basil leaves

Basil leaves have a carminative and a soothing effect and so, you will get relieved easily from acidity. Eat few leaves or boil few in water and drink that.

Fennel

Fennel also known as Saunf can help in preventing acidity. It has several gastrointestinal benefits and helps in times of indigestion.

Cinnamon

This is no less than an antacid & it brings about a great improvement in absorption as well as digestion. Cinnamon tea can give a great relief.

Cloves

Since a long time, cloves have been a favorite in Ayurveda. Then prevent gas from entering the intestinal tract. Crushed cloves can be consumed in order to prevent acidity.

Ginger

Ginger has multiple benefits, but the best one is acidity. You can use fresh ginger and chew it or drink ginger tea.
