With a multitude of good Italian restaurants in Singapore today, a myriad of Italian delicacies and savoury dishes await your discovery. We’ve rounded up four must-try Italian meals found in Singapore that are worth checking out.

Squid Ink Pasta

Jet-black pasta? It might look quite odd or full-on weird to some, but its briny and distinctively rich flavour sets it apart from other seafood pastas. It is believed to have originated in Sicily – one of the gorgeous coastal regions in Italy. It would be difficult not to think of worms when presented with this delicacy, but some people who were able to work up the courage to try it keep coming back for more.

Where to try it: Porta Porta Italian Restaurant is tucked away in a remote east part of Singapore that serves black ink pasta that comes with chopped squid and chilli. It’s one of the most popular dishes of the restaurant.

Trippa alla Fiorentina (Tripe Florentine-style)

Italian cuisine is always associated with pizza and pasta; however, tripe is also a traditional Italian meal served in many Italian restaurants. Beef tripe is usually from the first three chambers of a cow’s stomach. Preparing a Florentine-style tripe involves simmering the tripe with vegetables and tomato sauce to achieve the exact tenderness it requires.

Where to try it: Da Luca is an Italian restaurant situated in Novena that serves authentic Italian dishes and is famous for their Trippa alla Fiorentina or beef tripe.

Burrata

If you love cheese, this one is especially for you. Rich and soft with heavy cream stuffed into a supple mozzarella shell – Burrata is definitely a taste of heaven on earth. This ball of cheese reveals stringy curd and fresh cream can be eaten plain, on bread, or in pastas and salads.

Where to try it: Pietrasanta is owned and operated by the Massimini brothers who offer a Tuscan dining experience in Singapore.

Pizza Margherita

A list of must-try Italian food is never complete without any mention of pizza. The thin, crisp crusts of margherita are one of the hallmarks of Italy’s pizza.  The toppings of pizza margarita is reminiscent of the Italian flag: basil (green), white (mozzarella), and red (tomato sauce). You just can’t beat the simple and classic pizza margherita.

Where to try it: La Forketta is renowned for serving the best pizzas in Singapore and is loved by many.
