It is of immense benefit to professionals who wish to enhance their technical and professional competence.

Recently, Mr Khitish Kumar Nayak was appointed as Section Officer of SPE Delhi Chapter. Being one of the most prestigious organisations operating in the Oil and Gas industry, this appointment of Mr K K Nayak as an Officer of the New Delhi section is indeed one of the feathers in his cap. Owing to his 29+ years of experience in India and abroad, he is a highly motivated, positive & goal-oriented, with demonstrated professionalism & attention to detail.

For professionals in the Oil and Natural Gas exploration and production (E&P) like Mr Nayak, SPE provides a worldwide forum to exchange technical knowledge and best practices. SPE has more than 164,000 members from 143 countries. In order to further their mission, the Society of Petroleum Engineers publishes magazines, peer-reviewed journals, and books in addition to managing OnePetro and PetroWiki. OnePetro, launched in March 2007, is a multi-society library that allows users access to a broad range of literature concerning the oil and gas exploration and production industry. It is a multi-association effort that involves participation of many organisations. OnePetro currently houses 200,000 documents with more being added all the time. PetroWiki was created from the seven-volume Petroleum Engineering Handbook. Content therein is moderated by at least two members with subject matter expertise. This helps to preserve the accuracy of its technical information.

The membership of SPE is open to petroleum professionals with a desire to learn and exchange ideas. Professionals who become a member of SPE have access to a host of member benefits such as a complimentary subscription to the Journal of Petroleum Technology, unlimited free webinars, and discounts on SPE events (conferences, workshops, training courses, etc.) and publications. They are also given exclusive access to SPE Connect and the SPE Competency Management Tool. SPE Connect is a site and app for SPE members to exchange technical knowledge, answer each other's practical application questions, and share best practices.

The SPE Petroleum Engineering Certification was instituted to certify petroleum engineers by examination and experience. This certification is similar to Registration of Petroleum Engineers in the US. The Society of Petroleum Engineers has developed a system for evaluating oil and gas reserves and resources. The Petroleum Resources Management System (PRMS) is used by oil and gas companies in determining their reserves and serves as the primary basis for reporting rules established by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.
