Moving Into Your First Utah Valley University Housing

by Kevin Smith Author

Moving out of your parent’s home to live on your own for the first time can be exciting and nerve-wracking. Will I like my roommates? Am I going to make new friends? How difficult will my classes be? These are questions that everyone asks themselves before going off to college. If you are looking at finding Utah Valley University Housing, we’ll help you check some of those worries off your list.  Follow these guidelines to make your first housing experience a good one.

Check The Place Properly And See If There Are Any Pre-Existing Issues: When you are moving into student housing for the first time, you will have to take various factors into consideration. First off, you will want to make sure that the apartment that you are moving into is in good condition. Make sure the rooms and facilities are well maintained, look around for pre-existing damage, and see whether the place needs cleaning or not. Once you have checked the place thoroughly and the problems have been fixed, you can feel confident knowing you’re moving into a clean and safe apartment.

Document Everything Before Moving In:  One of the most important tasks everyone should do on moving into a new student housing facility is often forgotten due to the excitement of the situation: Make sure to take a video of your living space before moving in. This will increase your chances of getting your security deposit back as you will have evidence of how the place was before moving in. The video or photo evidence will come in handy if you think that it might be difficult to get your security deposit back.

If You Are Going To Have Roommates Set Some Ground Rules: Setting some ground rules will help you avoid a lot of issues with roommates. Be open and honest about how you like to live, and bring up any pet peeves you may have.  This will establish a precedent of open communication between roommates, and gives them a “heads up” as to things you might be sensitive about. When you are setting rules, set a daily and weekly chores routine, rules about having people over, and about paying bills. Even if you are going to be living alone, it is still a wise idea to set some rules for yourself and follow them.

What To Take With You:  If you are going to move into a non-furnished student housing apartment, you will need to take some things with you. You will need a good mattress and bedding, and an entertainment area for your off days and to relax. You will need to purchase or borrow furniture such as a table, chair, couch, bookshelves, and a dresser. Get some cleaning supplies when you are out as you should be doing a lot of cleaning. You will need kitchen and cooking utensils, and any other fun activities you can use on your leisure time.

If you are moving into UVU Housing, make sure to follow the above-mentioned tips to ensure that you have a great experience.
