The
Weather
The
temperature of Kilimanjaro varies from hottest to coldest to driest. People
pass through various climate zones on the Kilimanjaro trekking tour. Mt. Kilimanjaro has five prime
ecological zones, each located at approximately 1000m altitude. Temperature,
rainfall & vegetation decreases gradually as altitude increases. People
mostly start to climb Mount Kilimanjaro from
Moshi which serves as the entrance town is situated immediately south to Mt.
Kilimanjaro’s base. Due to its propinquity to the equator, there is no
comprehensive change in weather from season to season.
Weather
Conditions
During
Kilimanjaro trekking, the
temperature at the base of this mountain is 21-28 degrees Celsius
approximately. The temperature decreases as we continue to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. At the
trekker’s dream point, the Uhuru, temperature varies between 20 to -20 degrees Celsius.
Due to the humongous height of Mt. Kilimanjaro, it influences the weather
conditions itself. Since the weather is impossible to predict, climbers have to
be always equipped for wet days and chilly nights.

Schedule of Trekkers
For
Kilimanjaro trekking, almost
everyone opts for a guide or a group of guides. Usually, trekkers wake up at 6
am. It is ensured that they are getting a minimum of 7hrs of sleep. Trekkers
pack their bags and take morning breakfast. This is important as porters take
down the camp after it is vacated. People start the journey by 8 am after
having a medical check-up. On an average, trekkers walk for 4-6hrs a day. The
final day of the summit consists of 11-16 hours of walk. This is the real
achievement trekkers achieve. Climbers are woken up around midnight, given a
light snack and then they go up at chilly midnight. Climbing in this condition
is extremely difficult particularly on steep slopes.
Altitude
Adjustment
Different people react to high altitude in a different way. Everyone doesn't adjust well to decreased levels of oxygen. It is not guaranteed that the one who is fit and healthy will adjust well. Those who spend a week at least on a mountain and then start for the summit, are the ones who are destined to reach there. According to trekking levels, the major days of Kilimanjaro hikes are not very painful. The only stress comes on the summit day and becomes hard for almost everyone. There are only a few spots where sputtering is required such as the Barranco Wall, Western beach, Lava Tower.
