by Perry Nastos Hostelbay [ Hotels and Ferry Tickets in Greece ]
Μany times we want to try something different, so we react by not going to the most well-known islands. We choose destinations that are a bit different. Other times, we do not mind heading to the mainstream ports and that's ok because every Greek island has many hiding places where travellers can quietly enjoy their holidays away from prying eyes. Greece is such a colourful country! With these tips, you will find out why...

Colour and summer, are two words that characterise a greek holiday. See the Greek islands that will give colour and liveliness to your summer with their artistically mesmerizing corners. They may not be as bright as the Amalfi coast of Italy, but their colourful hidden gems are enough! This summer, put the following destinations on your travel agenda and take a swim in style! It is never too early to start planning your itinerary. The Greek islands will slowly begin to "sink" from the crowds that arrive there. Like every year, this year, Greece will be among the top travel destinations as a summer holiday escape and this is mainly due to its beautiful landscapes with its wonderful beaches, its wonderful food and the unique entertainment which the travellers enjoy every time they visit the islands of Greece. However, being aware of the difficult economic conditions to make the trip, it would be wise to have in mind some economical islands, whether for family vacations or not. So, the sooner you plan your vacation the better prices you will get regarding hotels and hostels on the Greek islands. You can even get cheaper Greek ferry tickets online or other flight deals if you search in advance. Travelling off-season is also a nice way to save money. If summer vacation in Greece exceeds your budget then you might consider visiting during May-June or September-October.

Milos

Milos has a reputation for being an ideal island destination for couples. This means that some people, especially locals, might be avoiding this specific island for this particular reason. However, you will realise that even if you visit this island with friends you will not regret it for a second. Swimming in the enchanting waters of Kleftiko or the sunset in Plaka will surely be an unforgettable experience. Fyriplaka is one of the most beautiful beaches. To get down there you have to take a dirt road, but once you see the sea, you will be fully compensated. A huge beach with crystal clear waters while on the background you can see various colourful rocks rising. A rock in the middle of the beach dominates the landscape. There is a beach bar with sun loungers and pillows. You will also have a great time in the traditional fishing village of Klima of Milos with the few inhabitants, the picturesque two-story houses with coloured shutters, the brightly painted doors and the coloured fishing boats in the Syrmata ("wires" as they are called storage areas for fishing boats and fishing tackle) they make up a colourful scenery! The bottom line is that Milos has so many beaches to see and so many other things to do. If you are interested in Greek island hopping, you should know that Milos can be easily combined with other islands of the Cyclades like Kimolos, Amorgos, Santorini, Ios, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros etc.

Amorgos
Most of the Cycladic islands might have been converted into cosmopolitan resorts, but here in the remote Amorgos, time follows its own routine! Sun, sea, traditional villages and beautiful beaches await all those who seek adventure and carefree holidays. In Amorgos, the houses can have the traditional Cycladic white, but the colourful windows, the doors, the various coloured details, the flowers around the narrow streets and, of course, the endless blue of the sea, lead many to include the island among the most colourful destinations around the world. The sure thing is that Amorgos will give you special memories and magical scenery for this year's holiday if you choose it as a travel destination! Katapola, Aegiali - the two harbours - and Chora are the main tourist attraction points. The bay of Aegiali is located at the northwest end of the island. Most hotels operate here, and there are plenty of affordable rooms to let as well. At the same time, a splendid sandy beach will cover your needs if you do not wish to travel away from your stay. A little further north is the small coast of Levrossos, framed by a vertical rock.

Symi
Symi, one of the most picturesque islands in the Dodecanese, in fact, it is the most colourful! The beautiful neoclassical houses that are painted in bright, warm and vibrant colours, perched on the mountains of the island and amphitheatrically built around the sea, create the perfect setting for your summer holidays! Symi is one of the most remote islands in Greece! Close to Rhodes, it is also one of the most popular destinations in the Mediterranean. It offers stylish holidays and is one of the ideal islands for couples. It is the perfect choice for those looking to have a holiday in style. Those who seek to combine cosmopolitan air with the nobility of tradition, rich history and culture will be delighted to stay in Symi. Discover Symi, it's worth it!

Kastelorizo
Kastelorizo, the easternmost part of Europe, has the most beautiful blue cave in the Mediterranean and was chosen for the shooting of the movie "Mediterraneo", making it world-famous. The particular Oscar-winning film has spread everywhere, not only the beauty but also the hospitality, relaxation and positive breeze of this magnificent destination! Kastellorizo has a supernatural and always timeless power: its stories and legends passed from generation to generation. The island has a very distinct and special culture. Kastelorizo has historically been associated with many aspects of Greek history. However, due to distance, travellers do not go there often. This beautiful place surely deserves an extensive reference. This small and picturesque island of the Aegean has a beautiful village that is an authentic example of the Dodecanese architecture and consists of mansions, impressive churches, traditional paved alleys and cliff steps. The neoclassical mansions that are painted in a variation of the pastel colours palette and the brightly coloured shutters give a colourful note to the island of Kastelorizo!

Kefalonia

Kefalonia, the largest island of the Ionian is a frequent choice of Greek and foreign visitors for a summer vacation. The main reason why the island is so popular is the enchanting beaches of Kefalonia with crystal clear waters and golden sandy beaches. Organized or not, remote or more secular, the unique beaches of Kefalonia will surely surprise its visitors in a pleasant way. The cosmopolitan preserved settlement of Fiskardo, - as one of the few on the island that was not flattened by the devastating earthquakes of 1953 - with its distinctive architectural character, the colorful two-storey houses with various bright colors and the narrow balconies as well as the narrow streets the colorful details and the flowers that decorate the yards, will add color to your summer if you prefer the beautiful island of Kefalonia as a destination for your summer vacation this year. One of the most beautiful parts of the island, Melissani Lake, the unparalleled natural sculpture of Kefalonia, will set aside any regrets you might have on visiting the Ionian Sea instead of the Aegean.
