One and only goal of your resume: To make it stand out from the rest!

Are you doing enough to make employers pick up and go through your resume? Do you have the ‘right’ elements on your resume to get it noticed by companies? Are you still waiting for that interview call? Well.. Then, read on to find out what you’ve been doing wrongtill now:

Wrong Focus

Something that not many job hunters understand, but it is necessary to build a correct focus when building your resume! Resume is something that you do not create for yourself; instead it is a piece of paper which speaks on your behalf in front of employers. Build a separate resume for every position you apply. Make sure that you highlight achievements according to the position you are applying for!

Typos

Your resume will be tossed into the waste bin if the employer spots a single typo. Make sure that you proofread your resume when you are building it. Also, before applying for a vacancy, proofread and go through your resume before you hit the send button! Typos leave a really bad impression on the employers so make sure your resume is free of them!

Not including Achievements

Many job hunters make the mistake of including only their responsibilities and duties in the experience section of their resume. If you’re doing the same – change your resume now! This does not mean that mentioning duties and responsibilities should be eliminated, but keep that description short and instead, list your achievements. Remember, you are selling yourself through your resume, so tell your potential employer about your accomplishments. How you performed your duties and what reward did you receive for them? Include all such information along with your experience.

Exaggeration

This is a BIG NO-NO! Never lie unless you want a career graph like Scott Thompson – the CEO of Yahoo! Mention all your achievements and educational history honestly. Today the employers are smart and can easily identify any lie that is on your resume. Social media, contacts, references – everything can help in knowing more about you! So make sure that you only include information which is true!
