New laws on the security of swimming pools mean that homeowners are obliged to add extra security to their swimming areas, or ensure that their current fencing is up to date and secure. There will be security inspections designed to ensure that all of the residents of Queensland are following this code, and you could face fines of over $800 for not correctly securing the area. Homeowners who know that their current barriers will not suffice need to consider alternatives to cheap pool fencing in the Gold Coast region.

How the laws are changing

At the start of the new laws in 2009, only new pools were required to meet high safety standards, and existing pool owners were allowed to take longer to fix the problem. However, from 1 December 2015, these existing pools will have to have a safety certificate. Without this certificate, the owner will not be able to sell their property, or rent it out, so the correct type of pool barriers are in hot demand. The government have been clear that pool safety is their only concern, and they are determined to fix the problems caused by lack of security in private pools. This means that homeowners need to take steps to secure their pool, and obtain their certificate, or risk facing heavy fines and being unable to sell the property. As most yard swimming pools have been added to increase the value of the home, this could be a serious issue for many property owners.

How to ensure your pool passes the test

The new laws are designed to protect people, and particularly children, from being harmed. The focus is upon small children, who have not learned to be cautious around water. The fences will have to be more than 1200mm in height, and free of objects which could make the barrier climbable. In order to ensure that they have the right pool fencing, Gold Coast residents are choosing to update their current barriers, and instead focus upon producing a good fencing design that will meet their needs, and the new regulations. In order to do this, customers should discuss their particular barrier or fencing desires with the installer, and look at options such as glass or aluminium fencing, adding flair as well as security to the fences around their swimming pool.
