How the law affects Glass pool fence in Gold Coast
Time is now closing in on those owners of existing pools in Queensland who have not yet changed their security measures to meet the new pool safety laws in the state. You have until the 30th of November of this year in order to comply. There are several requirements to the law which can affect existing fences around swimming pools, and so homeowners have to make sure that they comply if they plan to sell the house or to rent it out after this date. Failure to meet the regulations will mean that you no longer have a suitable certificate for the pool, and applying for a new visit could be expensive.
Before you can even build a new pool, you will have to have permission to build. The homeowner must wait for this permission before the pool can be filled more than 300 millimetres. The building certifier for the area will have to approve the pool before the filling can be done, and check that the pool fencing is adequate. In another 6 months after the construction, you will be inspected again to make sure that the pool is secure, if the pool structure is connected to the property. If there is a gap between the building and the pool then you must make sure that the pool is inspected within two years.
Registering under the new laws
These new laws mean that you have to register yourself with the state, becoming part of the Pool Safety Register. This has been designed to list all regulated pools, including those that hold safety certificates, and all safety inspectors licenced to inspect pools in the area. The owners of the pool must make sure that they are registered.
The fencing barriers
Part of meeting the new requirements is making sure that your pool barriers meet the new law. When you have glass pool fencing in Gold Coast, you need to make adjustments, including ensuring that gates are now self-latching and self-closing. The barriers must be 1200 millimetres from bottom to top, and there must be no climbable objects nearby which could hinder the process. There must also be no plants, trees or bushes which could be climbed by children. In addition, of the pool is next to the building, windows must have security screens fitted in order to prevent children climbing into the pool by that route.
