An essential part of both formal and informal outfits especially for those who wear shoes is that small inconspicuous garment worn on the feet - socks. They can even be worn with sandals and their primary purpose is to absorb the sweat that is produced by the feet. In cold countries it is also worn to protect the feet from cold especially frostbite. Earlier socks were made from natural materials like cotton, silk and wool but today with the introduction of spinning mills and fast production nylon socks are the most popular. For formal occasion most people favor dark colored socks and white socks are usually favored for sports, but for informal occasions there are an amazing variety that are available. Types and patterns of socks change according to fashion and today they have become a major accessory.

For those who like to bare their ankles with loafers or sneakers, socks are not an option. But walking around in the hot sweltering summer sans socks can become a major issue as sweaty feet is a common problem. This is where the no show socks comes in. Since your feet sweat a lot these kind of socks can absorb the perspiration and prevent a good pair of shoes from becoming smelly. These socks come in two varieties. One is made from translucent skin colored material so they cannot be seen. Others are low cut so they stay within the shoe, absorb perspiration and cannot be seen so that you get your bare ankle look.

A major fashion accessory today is leggings. They are usually skin tight and opaque and they are footless unlike stockings which cover the feet as well. Leggings come in different lengths i.e. they can go from the knee till the ankle. They are usually made in synthetic and stretchable material like polyester, Lycra or Lycra mix, spandex and even natural material mixes consisting of cotton and denim. The combined denim and Lycra leggings are very fashionable and are commonly called jeggings. They can be in a single shade which is more common or can be patterned. They are usually worn with long tops, long T-shirts and shirts.  They can even be worn with dresses and skirts giving a great appeal.
