It’s easier to judge a Linen Shirt Fabric for tightness of weave in a well-lit room, looking at a single thickness and judging it on how many tiny pinholes you can see between the threads. Some of the “quilting” cottons on sale is good quality, but some of it is flimsy trash. Also, just to make it harder to judge, most yardage you can buy is “sized”-treated with a product that makes it appear smoother & stiffer.

 

So take your time & investigate thoroughly. Price is related to quality as a rule, but some stuff is overpriced just the same.
