Websites have been benefiting businesses for quite a while now. So it is right to think that people know a lot about what works and what doesn’t. Surprisingly, the case is completely different here. Many websites still carry the same mistakes and those common mistakes are to be repeated over and over again by websites operating today. Here are the worst mistakes being made by website developers and designers, that shouldn’t be made in the first place:

1. Long Blocks to Text – Boring! Most of your website visitors are web patrons and web surfers. They don’t spend a lot of time to search for information that is not easily available on a webpage. Your website users have an attention span of approximately 4 to 8 seconds, you have to make sure that you make this short period of time worth their visit. Your text should not be too cluttered, use words that are required only. Long paragraph will only eat up extra space that could be used for something more important. If the webpage is about service make sure that text on it is about your services only. Make it reachable and understandable.

2. Too Many Images – Try not to add too many images to your webpages.  Too many images decrease the speed of a website.  According to a research held by Amazon, 0.1 second increase in the web design speed will decrease your lead generation by 1% in e-commerce sales. If you have e-commerce capabilities on your site, then keep the images to a minimum.

3. Bad Navigation – People when asked of what they actually wanted from a good web design, 76% of consumers replied that they want to be able to easily search for information that they are looking for. If your web design has a navigation bar which is poorly developed, too tiny to read or too big to fit in one line, then it needs to be altered. The best and fastest way of making it easier is to include a Google search bar on your site.

4. Background Music – Nobody wants to be surprised by a blasting music coming through their computer speakers all of sudden. So no, background music for a web design is a really bad idea. If you want to make it fancy, do it with your brilliant design techniques. Additional music will only make it annoying.

5. Animated GIFs – Just don’t. It’s so 1998.

6. No Way to Get in Touch – Your web visitors need some information on getting in touch with you for queries or for other concerns. A contact form is incomplete without an option that guides them about your phone number or location address.

The most important thing to remind you when designing or redesigning a website is moderation. Keep it simple. The overall design and feel of a web design is what makes it move in conformity with your brand and company. Try not to get too experimental, know what you are up to and make notes  for new ideas that can help you come up with something new.
