There are hardly any individuals these days who aren’t stressed in their lives. The pace and demands of modern life have made it very common for people to get stressed out. We should not abstain from talking to stress management experts.

Stress is a condition or feeling experienced by an individual when the work demanded from him surpassed the resources the individual can implement to carry it out efficiently. A stressed out individual feels that he’s lost control of the events and the fear of not finishing the work, or doing it haphazardly in an unpresentable fashion is bothersome.

Stress counselling can find a way to deal with such situations where the individual gets too stressed out. Hans Selyse was the first psychologist who started working on stress in 1956 and established that stress may not always be the result of a negative atmosphere and the effects felt in a stressful situation may be felt even when a positive event occurs. For instance, getting a new job, getting married, moving into a new house, birth of a child in the house, etc. are positive evens but the novelty and excitement of these events can lead to symptoms similar to those experienced in negative situations. According to stress management counsellors, stress does not necessarily need to be bad. Sometimes, we the exhilaration from successful work and encouragement can actually motivate us further and put just the right amount of pressure on us to get the work done efficiently and effectively.

Although, it’s true that a limited amount of stress can actually boost our performance and prove to be productive rather than detrimental for us, but sadly, today people are not able to maintain the right amount of balance in their lives and letting stress completely take over their lives. When we are under stress, our brain is in the ‘fight-or-flight’ mode and the hormones secreted make our body aware and alert. If we are able to manage our stress, this high alert mode switches off once the situation has been handled but due to the current lifestyles, we are never able to switch off the high alert mode and our stress levels keep building up, leading to health issues such as anxiety, blood pressure, unhealthy weight gain/weight loss, loss of sleep, back aches, etc. Getting stress management tips from experts can help us restore this balance.

We should not shy away from talking about our feelings, fears to those who are close to us. In case the idea of talking to someone familiar is uncomfortable, it’s best to talk to a stress management expert as the opinion and presence of an unfamiliar person may not be so daunting for a person under stress. Take steps to avoid unnecessarily stressful situations, make time for your family and other things that make you happy. Exercise regularly and make sure that you are always ready to deal with stress before it starts dictates your life.
