Gaining Weight The Right Way

Surrounded by an epidemic of obesity we tend to divert our attention towards weight loss practices, nearly forgetting those people who are actually having trouble gaining weight. Agreed, that due to our increasingly unhealthy lifestyles, it’s becoming more and more difficult to maintain our weight, and obesity threatens a large percentage of our population these days. Being underweight can bring forth a hoard of health issues, just like obesity does. An undernourished person has a weak immune system which makes him more susceptible to diseases. A person who is underweight faces the risk of osteoporosis, which is caused by deficiency of calcium and anaemia, which is caused due to lack of iron. When our diets aren’t inclusive of required nutrients, being underweight is an expected outcome. A woman who is underweight is prone to infertility and can is very likely to face pregnancy issues. Due to inadequate nutrition, such people are always feeling lethargic and unproductive after working for even short intervals of time.

Several reasons can cause the person to weigh less than usual. Genetics, metabolism, a highly demanding work schedule, stress, anxiety, mismanagement of time, carelessness with consumption of balanced meals, or extreme obsession with losing weight where people start neglecting the basic nutrient requirements of the body completely- this can even lead to anorexia and can require the interference of a psychologist to reintroduce a sense of responsibility and acceptance into the person.

Being underweight can cause a person to not just feel weak, but also affects his or her confidence levels and overall personality. An underweight person needs the support and expertise of an a dietitian who can help the person gain weight in a healthy manner by introducing a healthy weight gain diet plan into his or her life, encouraging the person to consume foods such as cheese, nuts, whole grains, healthy carbs and fats, which induce a healthy weight gain. A dietitian will understand the needs of the underweight person, and help with him to overcome this shortcoming.
