It doesn't matter why you need an attorney—it is likely an emotional and painful situation that brought you to the point of hiring one. From St. George, Utah to the East Coast, there are a wide range of attorneys, from a wrongful death lawyer to estate law and criminal attorneys to those who handle divorces. Once you have selected the right specialist for your specific case, the first thing most attorneys will want to do is have an initial consolation. Here are some things you can do to make sure your case goes smoothly.

Before You Go

Your initial consultation starts before you even walk through the office door. In fact, it should start on the phone when you call the office. It won't matter if you're in St. George or somewhere else, not every attorney’s office will charge for the initial consultation. Some of the offices do and others don't, so it is important to ask what the cost is and how long the appointment will last.

Whether you are in St. George and need a wrongful death lawyer or in the Midwest and need a divorce attorney, the next thing you will want to do is gather all the evidence you have regarding your case and organize it. By having this information readily available, it will make it easier for the attorney to understand your case. Make sure you are also ready to take notes on any advice that is given during the meeting.

At the Office

First of all, this is a meeting, so make sure you dress for the occasion. Again, it doesn't matter if you are in St. George or another part of the country, once you arrive at the office, make sure you are completely honest with your potential attorney. Hiding things will only make things worse when you get to court.

It doesn't matter if you need a wrongful death lawyer or a criminal lawyer, be sure to ask questions. The more you ask the better. These question could include things like how much the attorney charges, when he or she charges and how often. You could also ask questions about experience with similar cases and how the attorney feels about your case.

Remember, it is never a good idea to try to argue your case on your own. The law is complicated. Wrongful death law is different from divorce law, and so on. Hiring the right attorney for your case can only improve your chances of winning.
