Knowing More About LED Lighting Panels
Many lighting experts and energy conservationists believe that LED panels should be the ultimate choice of homes as well as offices instead of traditional fluorescent ceiling lights, if saving energy is the topmost priority. Not only can the integral and retro-fit panels provide the benefits of reduced electricity costs and maintenance, but also aid in creating a more illuminated environment.
Integral LED light panels are designed to provide service for a period of 1 to 2 years without demanding much cleaning, disposal or replacement. Currently, they are being produced in three ceiling grid sizes - 600 x 600, 1200 x 600 and 1200 x 300. They generally come with a plug-and-socket connector in order to support rapid installation, and are ideal for those ceilings that have a narrow void. For protection, sheets for LED lighting panels are used to prevent dust and dirt from entering the fittings.
Traditional fluorescents can provide only about 60 percent of the entire light that they emit, while the remaining 40 percent is lost within their fittings. However, LED panels are capable of delivering usable light at a wide beam angle. For instance, a room which requires 4 fluorescent bulbs may need only 3 LED panels that provide even better illumination, besides saving power and reducing electricity costs.
The nature of light from an LED panel is described using the phrase ‘colour temperature’. It is denoted using the unit of Kelvin (K) and exists in two forms:
-
Warm White - Ranges from 2700 to 3000 Kelvin. It delivers a golden colour and is generally used in filament lamps for such areas as nursing homes.
-
Cool White - Ranges from 4000 to 5000 Kelvin. It is ideal for providing a neat and modern appearance to schools, retails, offices and other commercial areas.
LED panels are initially manufactured with a driver that cannot be dimmed. However, an existing non-dimmable driver can be easily replaced with an appropriate dimmable one and also a controller.
While planning the lighting for any place, be it a condominium or business, it is important to consider emergency lighting options for some areas. LED panels are ideal to serve that purpose as well. In case of power failures, emergency LED panels can keep define areas like escape routes illuminated for a minimum of three hours due to the fact that they do not require much power to work. However, they must be installed by complying with the national and local building standards.
