by Digital Neha Marketing Manager

Buying a fragrance may seem to be very easy but it comes with so many questions and queries that we end up feeling confused. With so many types of perfume variants available, finding the right one is never easy. You are bombarded with the perfume jargons and terminology by the sales rep, confusing you even more and in some situations, ending up with a wrong perfume, which is super expensive. It is time to make your perfume journey easy and learn some simple tips and terms, that will definitely come in handy when you are buying the next one:

Perfume families:

Perfume world is very far and wide with tons of ingredients, however, there are few fragrance families which are certainly more popular among others. Floral, Fresh, Fruity, Oriental, and Woody are the major 4 perfume families in which you can find most of the perfumes. The floral category speaks about all the flowers and floral scents. The fresh family caters to the subtle fresh fragrances. The oriental one is the most classic one, which caters to the spicy strong floral and fragrant scents. The woody as the name suggests is all about fragrant woods and herbs that smell like wood. The fruity one is loaded with juicy fruity fragrances. You can look for Emper perfumes with fragrance family of your choice.

Perfume notes:

After the fragrance family, the perfumes are divided on the basis of notes. Each perfume contains three notes: Top notes, middle or heart notes and base notes. The top notes contain the freshest of fragrances from subtle ingredients. The fragrance stays for 10-20 minutes in top notes. After this comes the base or the heart notes. They have the most noticeable fragrant ingredients with a fragrance that lasts for 2-3 hours.

At the last comes the base note, which contains the strongest and heaviest notes with a pungent smell. These can stay on for at least 8 hours. The main purpose of the top and middle notes are to cover the pungent smell of the base and release it slowly. Hence, you should never buy your perfume depending on the top and middle one, laying focus on just the base notes.

Keeping these simple things in mind can come in handy when the sales rep will speak about the notes and ingredients present in the perfume. It will help you to understand the scent better for making an informed decision.
