And this can be done only if you know and understand the structure and function of a tyre and whether its mechanism matches your car’s requirements. So let us start with the first step of learning the tyre and its various parts.

Parts of a Tyre

Regardless of what kind of Tyres Frampton you are looking at, all of them share the same basic structure and some additional features that differ. So it is necessary to understand the basics of a tyre.

  • Tyre Beads: If we start from the innermost part of a tyre and go outwards, the primary function would be the beads. These are solely responsible for holding the tyre to the wheel rim. Tyre beads are manufactured using copper or brass, but some are even made out of high tensile steel, which are bronze plated and wounded into the shape of a rubber band. Having proper beads is essential. Otherwise, the tyre may slip off from its place on the wheels, which shall invite trouble.

  • Tyre Beads Filler: the next important internal part of a tyre would be the fillers in the beads, and it is a rubber compound. These have the purpose of making the tyre’s lower sidewall and the bead area more stable and robust. It is also a significant factor affecting the rigidity and strength of the tyre.

  • Body Plies: then comes the next layer of a tyre, a fabric cord with a rubber coating around it. This makes up the whole cord body which is otherwise called the body plies. It is the part that ensures the strength of the tyre by transmitting all the cornering forces of the tread towards the wheel. While polyester is the commonly used material for the body plies, rayon or nylon are also used.

  • Inner Tube: it is the part that is seen on the side of the body of the cord. This is also a rubber compound; it has the significant task of maintaining the air pressure within. Although there is no cord reinforcement, still it acts successfully as an inner tube. But, at present, modern cars may not have the inner tube as a part of them.

  • Belt Plies: this is the part that is found right under the tread region of the tyre. Belt plies are strong cord layers that are usually more than one in number. Steel material is the usual material for the belt plies, and it is also in charge of the tyre’s traction, impact resistance, and the possibility of improving tyre mileage.

  • Tyre Sidewall: this is the tyre area that starts from the treads to the beads of it and can be called the side of a tyre. It acts as a layer of protection for the cord body on the inside. This is also the outermost layer of Tyres Leverton, and on it is inscribed the details of a tyre for the buyer’s sake.

  • Tyre Tread: this is the only region in the whole of the tyre structure which comes in direct touch with the ground surface, which is why it faces enormous friction. Tread designs are essential for the driving and performance, and it also comes in various patterns owning to the need and purpose of the tyre. It can be said to be the most vital part of the tyre as things like the traction, resistance, balance wear, handling and fuel economy depend on it.
