Here’s How You Can Replace Your Car’s Headlights in Under 5 Minutes

by Mill Tyres Cheap New Tyres Boston

You may not have thought like this before, but your car’s headlights serve more purposes than just visibility. They are the first line of safety other than your tyres. Your car‘s headlights are indispensable during the night or in bad weather.

Unfortunately, like every other component, the headlamps may malfunction. That does not mean that you have to take it to a car service garage every single time they do. It would be highly expensive and would also take a lot of time.

This cheat sheet is meant for DIY lovers and those who have to spend long stretches on the roads.

Replacing Headlights is DIY-Friendly

Anyone who drives should master at least two skills. One is changing a flat tyre, and the other is replacing headlamps. If you are caught driving on suburban roads with malfunctioning headlights, you can be fined. You will also fail the MOT in Boston. What do you do?

Like stated earlier, visiting a professional service garage for every trivial issue is not always practical. These steps must be followed in the same order as they are given. Deviations will result in malfunctions yet again.

Main Points to Remember

Step 1. Locate the bulb holder accurately: Don’t roll your eyes at this step; every car has its headlight located differently. Before you start, ensure that you park in a reasonably remote zone with no oncoming vehicles. The holder has a trapezoidal wiring structure and three wires, recognisable instantly.

Step 2. Off with wiring harness: Normally, this harness is attached to the headlight holder. This step has three options. In case you have a plastic catch, gently slide off the little lever with your thumb. Have a metal clip? Pull it off, and the wires will become visible. Else, in case of a screw cap, turn it counter-clockwise.

Step 3. Take out the old bulb: This third step is significant. Ensure you have dry and firm hands. In many cases, the lamp will not come off clean. You may have to twist it in either direction.

Step 4. Replace with a new bulb: Never use your hand to handle a new bulb; you will immediately short-circuit it. Use a tissue paper or a clean piece of cloth. Once that is done, replace the bulb. Line it up evenly and tighten it home. If the gasket is not visible, it means that the bulb has gone in all the way.

Step 5. Test: We cannot emphasise on this point enough. Both lights must come on at once. Preferably, check the divergence and convergence of your beams. If you need to make any small adjustments, you may be better off heading over to an auto garage.

If there are any problems with your vehicle lights and you find it difficult to replace them, visit a local professional car service garage like Mill Tyres. Apart from repairing and servicing vehicles, they also stock a wide range of tyres Boston.
