by Puja Sharma Content Writer

Goa is the land of sun, sand and fun! And of course, excellent food and drink. You could try a beach restaurant in Goa, and you’ll know what we mean! Pack your bags now, and book your accommodation in one of the resorts in Goa. Before that, here’s all you need to know about Goan cuisine and drinks.

  • Goa is paradise if you are a sea-food lover. You must try the pomfret racheiado (pomfret that is stuffed with a red masala mix). The stuffing is a speciality of Goan cuisine! You must also try the prawn, crab and other fish delicacies while in Goa. The ambotik (a spicy Goan fish curry; the fish is typically catfish or shark) is definitely worth a try, if you are dining at a beach restaurant in Goa.
  • Say Goa, and you are sure to be told about the dish called sorpotel, a pork stew, yet another speciality of Goa. Yet another famous Goan recipe is the xacuti, which is a lamb or chicken-based dish with flavours of ground spices and coconut. Vindaloo is one more well-known dish and is a pork or chicken based one, with a mix of spices. You can savour these curries with sannas, steamed rice cakes resembling South Indian idlis.
  • Goan cuisine also has a range of vegetarian options, mostly clubbed under Saraswat cuisine. This kind of cuisine also includes fish, as it is considered vegetarian. There is wide variety even among Saraswat recipes, and a lot of their food uses kokum, a Konkan fruit, coconut, tamarind etc.
