There are many distinct schools of children’s Jiu-Jitsu, and you've heard terms like Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu, Gi Jiu-Jitsu, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. They are similar in many ways, yet there are a few important differences between them. To summarize, jiu-jitsu began in Japan as Jujutsu, a combat style in which an opponent could defeat an armed opponent without the need for a weapon. The word "Ju" implies "flexible" or "yielding," while "Jutsu" means "art." While each style of the sport differs slightly, the concept of beating a stronger opponent with a flexible fighting approach is common to all.

Sometimes, you'll come upon an MMA gym that provides both Gi and No-Gi classes. There are some significant distinctions. The uniform is one of the key contrasts between the two. Competitors in Jiu-jitsu classes for adults use a conventional belted costume, but fighters in No-Gi may only wear shorts and a rash guard or a t-shirt. The costume is distinct, and as a result, the fighting techniques are also different. When you're wearing the Gi, you can grasp hold of your opponent's outfit, which can help you overpower them when grappling. In a No-Gi competition, however, you are not allowed to grip onto clothing and must instead rely on skills that enable you to grab vital regions like elbows, necks, and knees. Gi provides a little more battling versatility in this sense.

Because you cannot hang on to the uniform, it may appear like No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu training is less effective. However, because you do not wear a Gi during an MMA fight, No-Gi is more applicable to mixed martial arts in general. If at all possible, you should take both types of classes because they focus on different types of abilities. The more talents you gain, the better your entire game plan will be, thus knowing both methods has a distinct edge.

This is quite subtle when it comes to the differences between basic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Gracie-style Jiu-Jitsu. Both styles of children's jujitsu teach the same skills, and either gym can help you become a stronger fighter. Instead of teaching Jiu-Jitsu as a competitive sport, the Gracie philosophy teaches it as a philosophy of life and a self-defense weapon. While Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu championships exist, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu championship bouts do not. Neither is superior to the other; you must just choose the style that is best for you.

BJJ is not only valuable in MMA, but it is also incredibly successful in real-life circumstances like street battles or situations when self-defense is required. Because the bulk of street confrontations take place on the ground, this style of martial arts is extremely practical. Children, women, and persons of lower stature can use the techniques acquired in Brazilian jiu-jitsu to defend themselves against someone considerably larger than them.
