Even if you’re the best advertising agency in Utah or even the world, it can still be hard to recognize if your marketing plan is working. Whether your tactic is tried and true, or maybe you are trying something for the first time. The marketing field is always changing and there is no perfect formula, so how do you know if your strategy is working?

Only Track One or Two Metrics

Have you ever left a sales meeting feeling overwhelmed by how much you need to pay attention to? Any advertising agency in Utah or anywhere knows that tracking every single metric is a sure way to burn out your marketers and your salesmen. Pick one or two of the most important metrics. If you are doing well in those then odds are your marketing strategy is working.

It’s tempting to make up your own metrics, but avoid doing so. New metrics don’t have standard benchmarks, so it’s difficult to determine if your team is working to its full potential. Depending on what your marketing strategy is, you will focus on different metrics.

Retention Strategy

If your strategy is focused on maintaining current customers, then you will focus on metrics that indicate customer retentions. These metrics could be your impact on NPS, attrition level or account size for pre-existing customers.

Prospecting Strategy

If your marketing strategy is focusing on prospecting and getting new clients, they you should be focusing on those kind of metrics. You may want to focus on qualifying leads or your close ratio.

Depending on your strategy, different parts of the advertising agency will have more work to do. For example, if your strategy is prospecting, then more effort will be required of your sales team. If your strategy is retention, then more effort will be placed upon customer service and marketing. Watching the work load of your employees can be a good general indicator of effectiveness.

It doesn’t matter where your company is located, in Utah or elsewhere, understanding how to track metrics will give you an indication of how well your marketing strategy is working.
