Is Carpet Patching A Viable Option To Revive Damaged Carpet?

by Perth Carpet Master Carpet Repairer & Restorer
While most people think about purchasing a new carpet when there is minor wear and tear, it is not the only solution. Carpet patchwork is often the most cost-effective solution.

Carpets can get quite expensive to purchase, thus, they can not be changed after a few years. Instead of purchasing a brand new carpet, it is much easier and cost-effective to just repair the damaged bits. Carpets can be damaged by pets or constant wear and tear. But you can’t leave the carpet in its tattered condition for a long while as it wouldn’t just be unpleasant to the eye but also increased the chances for people to trip and fall. What is the solution to revive a damaged area without changing the carpet of the entire home? Well, the answer is quite simple, it is a good carpet patching.

What is carpet patching?
Carpet Patching is the easiest way to cover any small hole in your carpet without changing it altogether. For a perfect job, one can contact a professional when it comes to carpet patching as it is a technical job that requires professional attention. One of the most used methods of patching a hole in a carpet is by marking the affected area with a circle or square. Then using a sharp knife the marked area is cut and patched with a similar coloured and textured carpet.

Is the patchwork noticeable?
Many elements influence the quality and appearance of a seam. The most important consideration is if a closet piece of carpet will match the newer one. Due to sun fade and wear, the patched-in portion may appear fresher than the original old carpet. The easiest approach to see what the consequences will be is to place a remnant piece next to the region that has to be fixed. Of course, if you're willing to wait a few years for the patched carpet to blend in with the original, this may not be such a huge deal.

In terms of seam work, depending on the carpet, the seam should be barely visible to undetectable after carpet patching. If you notice the seam due to the colour difference, compare it to a tan line on your skin. Although there is no seam, the colour contrast creates the illusion of a line.

Should I get carpet patching done?
If there’s a minor area that is almost invisible to the eye that needs patching, then you can skip it for the time being. However, if the area that requires patching is moderate in size then the area can be considered for carpet patching as it is not only unpleasant to look at but also dangerous. But patchwork for bigger areas needs the prior overview of a professional to check if it is eligible for a carpet patch-up.

How much will a carpet patch cost?
The price is determined by the size of the patch. A modest patch will cost $50-80, while a bigger patch will cost $150-200. When there are multiple patches, the cost per patch generally decreases.

Whether or not, if carpet patch is worthwhile, to repair carpet depends on your circumstances and demands. Your selection will be influenced by how long you are willing to wait for a patch to blend in and your expectations. You can always replace the carpet to be safe, but repairing the carpet is typically a far more cost-effective and better solution.
