Vincristine is an alkaloid extracted from the plant of the Apocynaceae species, Vinca. Because of its good anti-tumor effect, its preparation is currently used as a clinical anti-tumor drug. It is found in Phrynaceae, Catharanthus species. It is anti-cancer, and the effect is about 10 times higher than vinblastine, especially for the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It is also effective against other acute leukemias, Hodgkin's disease, lymphosarcoma, reticulocytic sarcoma and breast cancer.

Vincristine has the effect of halting cell division (mitosis) in the interim as compared to the alkaloids contained in vinca varicosus, such as vinblastine, valacyclovir, and panorrhea. This is similar to colchicine, but its effect is stronger than colchicine. Like colchicine, it binds to tubulin and inhibits its biological activity, but it binds to different sites. In addition, it differs from colchicine in that it also acts on proteins other than tubulin, such as actin and 10 nanofilament.

In clinical medicine, vincristine is used as one of the anticancer agents, especially for hematopoietic tumors. Vinblastine sulfate can be used to treat Hodgkin's disease and choriocarcinoma with outstanding effects. It also has some effect on lymphosarcoma, reticulocytic sarcoma, acute leukemia, breast cancer, nephroblastoma, ovarian cancer, testicular cancer, neuroblastoma and malignant melanoma.
